SQL Server 2022 Standard - Questions and Answers regarding licensing and delivery.
SQL Server 2022 Standard is a very popular product at DirectDeals, but there is some confusion about how it is licensed and delivered, so we decided to offer the following to try to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the product:
Question: Is Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Standard available as a download key?
Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Standard is only available through CSP, Volume Licensing (Enterprise Agreement, Enterprise Agreement Subscriptions), and MPSA customers.
However, it was made available to these channels in November 2022, while it was not made available to CSP customers until January 2023.
There are a few reasons for this delay:
- CSP is a complex channel. There are many different CSP partners, each with a unique infrastructure and processes. Ensuring all CSP partners are ready to sell and support SQL Server 2022 takes time.
- CSP customers have a more comprehensive range of needs. CSP customers can include businesses of all sizes, from small to large enterprises. Microsoft needs to make sure that SQL Server 2022 is available in various licensing options to meet the needs of all CSP customers.
- Microsoft wanted to focus on the most critical customers first. Enterprise customers are typically the most demanding, and they also have the largest deployments of SQL Server. Microsoft wanted to ensure these customers had access to SQL Server 2022 as soon as possible.
It is important to note that the delay in availability for CSP customers does not mean that SQL Server 2022 is not a good fit for them. CSP can be a great way to purchase SQL Server 2022, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.
Here are some of the benefits of purchasing SQL Server 2022 through CSP:
- Flexibility: CSP offers a variety of licensing options, so you can choose the one that best meets your needs.
- Affordability: CSP can be a more affordable way to purchase SQL Server 2022, especially if you only use a few licenses.
- Scalability: CSP makes it easy to scale your SQL Server 2022 deployment up or down as needed.
- Support: CSP partners can provide you with support for SQL Server 2022.
